American Inspired Staycation – #SantanderStaycation

Funny enough, P1 has just returned from a holiday, a full 9 days with her Grandparents. She stayed in the UK this time in a beautiful place in Gloucester. I am so jealous of her little trip away because we have put off a big, long family holiday for nearly three years. The main reason of course is the price. Santander 123 Credit Card team have been doing some research about holidays, specifically holidaying abroad and I was completely amazed at the figures. I of course jumped at the chance to be challenged to have a #SantanderStaycation at home.

I picked the USA to be my country of choice because I have always wanted to venture out of Europe and to visit America. One day maybe I will but with a daily spend costing on average £87 , a 21% rise since 2010, this dream may be a little further away. However, using a credit card could be a better option when travelling abroad as a spend between £100-£30,000 is protected by law meaning if anything was to go wrong whilst holidaying our money would be protected.

Today was our first day back as a family of five so it was a really good day to spend it doing family things. We woke up and I cooked the girls and myself some pancakes, not quite the big thick American ones as we aren’t too keen but pancakes nonetheless. We all had cheeky Golden Syrup and gobbled up the entire mix rather quickly.

I did a little bit of research as I have never been to America, and not surprisingly burgers came up as a top dish. All week we’ve been really watching the things we eat with more time on our hands to actually cook so getting some burgers, onion rings, fries and buns was a real treat. We then watched some Disney films and relaxed letting our food go down.

It’s been a drizzly, awful day today but when the rain stopped Hubby decided to take us all to go and feed the ducks. I know that if we were in America or on holiday in general, we wouldn’t be sat around in our accommodation. So a little bit of rain was not going to stop us.

It was lovely. A good chance to walk slowly round the lakes and take lots of photos. I really enjoy watching the girls interact with each other and holidays really enhance those bonds. Doing this staycation has been lovely. I proper reason to enjoy family time, pig out and have lots of fun. Just like you would abroad but from the comfort of your own home and within a better budget. I really can’t wait to go on a real holiday abroad as a family but for now, little staycations are perfect!
