Boxing Day is traditionally the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a “Christmas box”, from their bosses or employers. Today, Boxing Day is the bank holiday that generally takes place on 26 December.
These days Boxing Day is more about the calm after Christmas Day, allocating homes for all the new gifts, tidying up and spending time with family.
This year in our home it’s just that. I’ve tidied away toys, done a mountain of washing up, several rubbish bags have been taken outside and we’re watching some of the films I recorded on the Sky+ box. We’re all in our onesies and being quite lazy!! The girls are finally getting some time to actually play with their new toys.
Boxing Day for us is also a time for change. My hubby and I have agreed to add a little more structure to our lives and to go on a diet. We’ve both put on quite a bit of weight and need to get healthy!
I’m struggling this evening because we normally sit with snacks and watch tv together. It’s a bit like smoking I suppose – a bad habit that’s hard to break. I ate a penguin bar to help with the “cravings”.
How did you spend Boxing Day?
