Good Friday Birthday Celebrations

There seems to be a bit of a habit-forming on my behalf, and that is that I am becoming a bit rubbish at documenting life as it happens. The whole reason I started this blog in the first place.

There are quite a few draft blog posts that I need to find the time and energy to complete. Like this one, from Hubby’s birthday which was right at the beginning of April!

Last year Hubby had his big 30th birthday during the first lockdown. We couldn’t celebrate or mark the occasion in the special way we wanted to. Nobody ever expected to still be deep into a pandemic a whole year later.

The lockdown restrictions eased to allow up to two households to meet outside, meaning that for his 31st birthday this year we could celebrate with some family members in our garden.

We let the birthday boy have a lie-in, it was actually the first day of the Easter holidays so we made pancakes and I kept the girls busy downstairs.

Eventually, we made our way to wake the birthday boy up with his cards and presents. Hubby loves Reeses’ chocolate, so that’s exactly what he got. I’m pretty sure he devoured them so quickly they barely hit the sides.

My mother-in-law, her partner and brother-in-law arrived around midday for some doughnuts. She surprised Hubby with the most thoughtful gift – a handmade Ken doll dressed like a clay shooter. It’s incredible!

My mother-in-law is also the pass the parcel Queen and no celebration is complete without one. Hubby tries to be the biggest cheat which allows for great entertainment.

Although we all had sugar running through our veins, we still had some room spare for a birthday swiss roll. Hubby always has a swiss roll for his birthday.

It felt so good to be able to enjoy family time in the garden, a little chilly but nothing a few blankets didn’t fix. I hope Hubby had a perfect 31st birthday this year and I’m hoping next year we will be able to celebrate a little bigger!
