Is It Lucky To Have Child Free Time?

I hear it so often when I tell people I’m child free and that we get to have this once a month for an entire weekend. “You’re so lucky!” But is it luck really? And is that luck mine or the kids?

If you are new to my blog, I am a mum of three girls. I had my first daughter at 16 years of age, when I wasn’t really an adult or adventured into the “real” world. I had to navigate being a Mum and a new grown up. My Mum was really supportive and allowed me to have child free time with my friends, who had all started to go separate ways naturally.

Fast forward 9 years, a husband, a totally new location and life can be drowning. Like most parents, I find the constant bickering between my girls, the demands, the late nights and early mornings extremely difficult. There are times when I feel like a failure, I feel like I can’t breathe and that all I want to do is escape.

My girls adore their Grandparents but they live in a different county, so it became a thing that they would head over there for a weekend stay. As you can imagine for me, that means two nights of full sleep and no demands, no responsibilities. I am lucky, of course I am. We head out for spontaneous shopping trips or meals out in peace.

On the other hand there are my girls. P1 grew up very close to my Mum, I honestly believe she likes her better than me most of the time. Going to their Nanny’s house for a whole weekend is such a treat. They get spoiled absolutely rotten each and every time. They usually go on fun days out and adventures that sometimes we can’t do with them because we have normal daily life to contend with too.

So in my opinion I honestly believe my girls are luckier than I am when it comes to child free time. They get to bond with their Grandparents and Uncle in such a special way, usually once a month. Do you get child free time? What do you get done during those precious moments?
