“I’ve never truly had a sleepless night”

I’ve been a Mum for nearly six years. I’ve spent a lot of those years complaining of sleepless nights, especially and more particularly the past 20 months. However, after last night, I realised that I’ve never truly had a sleepless night and it really should have just been me moaning about broken sleep.

Last night, I got a total of about three hours. P2 woke at just before 3am which was typically as P3 was having a feed. Luckily, after about half an hour P2 settled back down to sleep leaving me with a wide awake newborn. I dozed off a few times between 3:30 and 4:30 but each time I woke up I had little wide awake eyes staring up at me from the SnuzPod. I fed her, so many times, but she wouldn’t settle to sleep. She was wide awake and staring at the dim bedroom.

It wasn’t like she was settled and I could just leave her in the SnuzPod, she kept crying and kicking. She was full of wind and spat up some milk. Finally at 5:30am she had a large feed and fell back to sleep. I then needed to go to the toilet and just as I’d managed to get myself back to bed and drifting into dreamland, in came P2 wide awake and ready to start the day.

I tried to get her back to sleep in her bed but it was clear I wasn’t going to get any luck. So I switched our tv on in the bedroom for the very start of cBeebies (6am for those who don’t know), gave her a bottle of milk, two biscuits and a blanket. I managed to grab half hour before the alarm went off.

I’ve already had a little argument with P1 this morning who wanted help to do up her blouse, I helped her obviously, turned to serve the porridge and she’d taken off her blouse?! I just hope that P2 is kind to me today because I don’t think I’ll last the day if she isn’t. It’s safe to say I’m exhausted. Hubby is going to do the school run this morning and hopefully I’ll be able to rest as I’ve been having pains in my lower tummy and bottom area since yesterday. I need to take it easy.

Siblings 2021 – June

June has been quite the emotional rollercoaster. One moment I’m flying high above the clouds …

  1. Really late congratulations on your new arrival – she is so beautiful! It sounds really tricky but I bet you’re doing far better than you think. I can’t imagine how we’re going to cope with two, let alone three. Fingers crossed you have more sleep this evening xx

  2. As a new Mum with just ONE little one … I think you are a superhero! I complain about lack of sleep and when I tally it up it’s six hours … just in lots of little chunks. If only these little bits could be as refreshing as a whole unbroken night rest! Definitely take it easy. That’s what husbands are for! And huge congrats on P3.
