My Sunday Photo – 10/05/2015

I have taken a real back seat on the healthy eating and exercise thing which is certainly not what I wanted to do as I have a dress to fit in for a wedding in two weeks. But I have and I’m quite ashamed really. Yesterday, the postman delivered to me two exciting fitness related things for me; my new Fitbit Flex and my new Fabletics Workout Outfit. And it seems like I have turned into a fitness freak over night as this morning I have been super charged and ready for all things health related.

I know that I am nowhere near being overweight, in fact my BMI says I am just slightly over being in the middle of a healthy weight for my height. So really I am not looking to lose weight at all. I’m actually really happy with my weight but the part of me that I’m not happy with when I look in the mirror is the wobbly bits. My legs and my tummy mainly. But it isn’t that that’s actually pushing me wanting to exercise and eat better. It’s what lies underneath.

My Grandad, at nearly 84 years old, has just been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. My Nan died of Kidney Failure. My Mum, at nearly 50, has Kidney Disease. I have a family of chronic illness, genetic illnesses. I could be naive about things, I could ignore these factors in my family and continue to not care about the salt and sugar intake, the chocolate I eat and the biscuits that make their way into my mouth daily. The ready meals. The processed foods. I’m 22 years old, I should be living for the moment not watching everything I eat.

But I have a family. A family that depends on me and that I personally want to be around to watch grow and have their own families. I don’t want to be suffering in my later life with chronic illnesses and medication. I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. I want to take my time when picking what we are going to eat, I want to teach the girls that looking after our bodies is a good thing not a chore. I don’t want to pile my plate high, I want to eat the right sized portion. I’m going to do at least one workout app a day and start running in the evenings.

I want to be the best influence for my girls.

  7. I agree with everything that you have written. I’d love to get rid of my wobbly bits too, but there’s so much more to it than that.
