The Results – JOHNSON’S 3 Steps To Better Sleep

Two weeks ago we embarked on a journey that was hopefully going to change our lives for the better. JOHNSON‘s had asked us to take 3 steps at bedtime; bath, massage and quiet time using their Bedtime bath products. We were asked to do this routine every night to improve P3s sleep.


I was very anxious when starting this new routine for us. Fitting in bath time each evening felt like a huge challenge in our already challenging bedtime routine with 3 children. The first night went really well. Seeing P3s little face as she splashed around in our makeshift “bath” was heart melting. She is my only daughter to actually enjoy water at this age. She babbled away, we played with her Little People toys and she attempted to eat the bubbles (not recommended).


Her big sisters were already in bed asleep when we bathed her so that we could just focus on her and not disrupt those who weren’t having their bath. Following on from her bath time was massage time. I used the JOHNSON’s bedtime baby oil all over her every other night and then the bedtime lotion the days in between. She smelt scrumptious and her little sleepy eyes rolled about her skull as she enjoyed a massage.


As the days went on she began to get used to the new routine. Laying down and pushing her feet towards me for her massage. Unlike her middle sister, she loves to be stroked to sleep as a way of calming her so these massages were really up her street. I learnt some techniques a few years ago with P2 so that quiet time felt special with P3.


Quiet time was the interesting part, reading the story, it was such a beautiful story about a duckling getting ready for bed. I loved it but P3 wasn’t overly keen, it seemed to give her an excuse to get up and wake herself up after the massage so I stopped after the first few days. Instead she had her bottle in darkness and we did our usual routine to get her to sleep.


In the midst of our little challenge my three girls started sharing a room together AND P3 came out of her cot into a toddler bed so I was expecting some rough nights. We had three very early wake up calls but other than that her sleep has been amazing. Most nights she’s been waking once somewhere between 3am and 5am. This is such a great improvement. I’ve been able to have peaceful evenings without going up and down the stairs a million times and when I actually do go to bed st a decent time myself, I am getting a good stretch of solid sleep.

I am actually so shocked and of course incredibly pleased that by changing something so small like bath products could have such a fantastic effect on our lives.

  4. This was pretty much our routine with our first baby – lucky thing, she got a full body baby massage every day, a lovely bath, milk, stories and lullabies. It was my favourite part of the day and she slept so well. Still does. We kind of managed to stick to the routine when number two came along, although things were a bit more hectic, but he still went to bed really well. However, it was a lot harder with number three and having three kids of four and under and hubby not getting home until quite close to bed time. I’m so impressed you manage to do all this with your third child, great that the others were already in bed so you could concentrate on P3. We did try this, but the youngest would just get overtired. I think a good bedtime routine is so important – even though things are more hectic now for us, the routine is key and all three of them go to bed really well x

    We are doing this challenge too and it’s so encouraging to see that it’s worked for you. We will be using our kitchen sink as a ‘makeshift bath’ too as we only have a shower/wet room. I can’t wait to get started:) X
