Their Dream Horse with Petplan Equine

Isn’t it every little girl’s dream to own their own pony? I know that when I was a child I was so invested into the idea of owning my own horse. I’d even create mood boards and used library books to research costs and items I would need. My brilliant efforts fell on deaf ears sadly, and my dreams still live on through my own three children. Who as of yet, haven’t quite made the same amount of effort. They have big shoes to fill.

A few weeks ago I was asked to challenge my girls in designing their own Dream Horse for the Petplan Equine Horse insurance campaign. My daughters have a great imagination and they took no encouragement to get involved in this. Their drawings would be turned into a real cuddly toy.

I decided to get them to draw three unique animal heads – one each. They each have very individual ways of drawing so I was excited to see this three headed horse take shape.

As they got creative, we discussed what it takes to be a great horse owner. Petplan Equine have many different insurance options from the young horse to the elderly. They have lots of policies that you can tailor to your own needs and they are one of the only equine insurers that offer lifetime cover.

After all, it’s great to get excited about the fun you could have on rides and holidays, but it’s important to be aware of the things that could go wrong when you own a horse and the importance of making sure you are responsible.

Their dream horse turned out to be a three headed mermaid-horse. Can you tell who drew what head? Personally I think their efforts were so amazing.

We sent their finished drawing off to the Petplan Equine team, where they turned it into a cuddly toy. We had to wait a few weeks and I had constant requests from the girls about when their mermaid-horse would arrive.

Did you know that Petplan also work with more animal rehoming charities than any other pet insurance provider? I didn’t but what a fantastic statement to be able to say. In fact they have worked with more than 1,200 charities throughout the UK and in 1994, formed the Petplan Charitable Trust which has so far raised more than £7million towards a better, healthier world for animals.

As you can see from the photos, our mer-horse arrived in all its colourful glory. It was actually pretty perfect if you ask me. The girls loved it. They now take it in turns to either take it to bed or take it to school for show and tell. I love how proud they are.

Being a part of this campaign has opened our eyes up to the responsibilities of owning pets. The insurance side of things was definitely not included in my own research when I was a child, I would have failed miserably. It’s such an important part of being a great horse owner!
