“This weekend has got off to a really, really rocky start”

This weekend has got off to a really, really rocky start and the stupid thing is, the morning I’ve had is probably perfectly normal and average to most families with young children.

P2 woke me up at 5:51am. This woke P1 up too but I fed P2 her bottle and explained to P1 that it was too early to wake up and she needed to lay down and go back to sleep. Which she seemed to. P2 was fast asleep so I tucked P1 in and left the room.

At 6:30am, just as I’d dosed back to sleep, P1 came into the room saying that she was scared and wanted to come into the bed with us. I calmed her down and explained it was still dark. So she went off to her room and to bed. I listened carefully and thought I could hear her climbing into her sisters cot (a usual occurrence) so I rushed into the room to find both girls wide awake and the light on.

I flipped. I knew that it wasn’t time for P2 to be awake and that she’d still be asleep if the light wasn’t on full! There was shouting and tears from P1 and me. P2 ended up in bed with us in my poor attempt of getting her back to sleep so I could selfishly do the same.

No luck in that department. So reluctantly I took P2 downstairs to begin our day checking on P1 on the way down who believe it or not was fast asleep snoring!!!! The same as hubby.

I’m so exhausted lately and after yesterday’s lack of sleep and extremely demanding baby, I really just needed our normal weekend morning of 8am wake up. That’s what’s normal in this family and what I’m used to so I’m sorry if some of you are laughing because my 7am get up is actually a lay in for your family.

Hubby said I can sleep on the journey to Essex for swimming today. That’s going to be heaven!!! I may even pack my pillow…
