Today was the day for the appointment with the Special Educational Needs coordinator at P1s school. I’ve been feeling very nervous about it for some strange reason.
Miss M was lovely. So welcoming and friendly. She talked through what she’d noticed in P1; currently at top level for communication and language which is above average for the United Kingdom, she has a great knowledge of the world and the environment which apparently not many children do these days, she’s bottom in her physical ability which we knew and she needs some extra guidance with her social side of school. Now that was a shock!
Past nursery reports have said she’s a “very social butterfly” and she’s extremely confident at home or with people she knows. Miss M said that because of her physical ability the other children tend to baby her, hold her hand and drag her along to quicken her pace, and that’s something they think is an issue.
I suppose I’ve seen some social issues, like when she did her Perform play, and when she went to her school friends party last weekend. It’s just odd. Just so unlike the little cannonball we have at home everyday! Have I done something wrong? Overall, I’m glad that the school has noticed P1s need for some extra help, and they have also said they’ll be writing a pushy letter to the physiotherapy place to get P1 seen quicker… Seen at all would be nice!
P1 had her new swimming lessons start over here in Kent this afternoon and she did quite well! Parents sit literally a meter from the pool which was a little scary with P2 desperately wanting to get off our lap and onto the floor to explore. She won’t be coming next week!! Oh, and this is what the little madam did at dinner time tonight……….
