Valentines Jam Heart Biscuits

I used to hate Valentine’s Day. I felt it was very commercialised and a date in the diary specifically for people to make money from. Surely if you love someone you should be showing them that each day, not just one day out of 365.

But then I joined the blogging world and this year I’m making an effort to join in with the seasonal events like Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Not forgetting Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. I’ve even jotted down in my new diary exactly when I want to post related posts, which happen to be one bake and one craft. I’m that sad!!

This years Valentine’s Day related bake are these super delicious Jam Heart Biscuits but of course you can make these all year by switching it for a round shape. Here’s how to make them:


Jam-Filled Heart Biscuits

  1. 250g/9oz Plain Flour
  2. 200g/7oz Butter, small cubes
  3. 100g/3.5oz Icing Sugar
  4. Pinch of Salt
  5. 2 Egg Yolks
  6. 8tbsp Jam, flavour of choice
  1. Preheat your oven to 170C/Gas 3.
  2. Using your fingertips rub the flour, butter and icing sugar together. The mixture should look like breadcrumbs now.
  3. Mix in the egg yolks. A dough will form.
  4. Lightly flour your work surface, knead the ball of dough until nice and smooth. Roll out the dough until about half a cm.
  5. Using your heart cutter (or cutter of choice) cut an even number of biscuits until all the mixture is gone.
  6. For half of the biscuits cut out a hole using a smaller cutter or a circle shape. I used a playdoh cutter, use your imagination.
  7. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden. Watch them carefully as the smaller or thinner they are the quicker they cook.
  8. Put them onto a wire rack or plate to cool. When completely cool dollop some jam in the middle of the full biscuits. Gently press the holed biscuits on top. Pop in the fridge to set. Then eat to your delight.

My advice to anyone is to never bake with rather young toddlers. Or P3 to be precise. She had a whale of a time splattering flour and icing sugar all over everything. Then throwing the mixture at P2 and yeah, just don’t bake with her if  you want a mess free activity.


I really enjoyed being in the kitchen doing these heart jam-filled biscuits. It probably sounds silly but these were the most adventurous biscuits I’ve ever made. Plus they were actually edible!
